Organization of the Month: Helping Mamas

May 12, 2023, 13:16 by Caralin Stepp

In celebration of Mother’s Day, SCANA Energy is making a $10,000 donation to Helping Mamas, a nonprofit distributing baby items and hygiene products to women and children in need throughout Georgia. The organization serves approximately 60,000 children a year and donates 2 million essential items to communities across the state.

Helping Mamas began in founder Jamie Lackey’s garage after she noticed there were no public assistance programs to provide diapers and feminine hygiene products to new mothers and women who needed them. Using her passion for motherhood and her experience as a social worker, Lackey began collecting supplies from friends and family members. By 2018, Helping Mamas had expanded to a 9,000 square foot building the organization still uses today. The organization works with more than 150 partners from Georgia and Tennessee to achieve their mission.

SCANA Energy is proud to support Helping Mamas in their mission. For more information, visit helpingmamas.org.
